Languages - Italian

At St Peter's Primary School, Italian is taught as a Specialist Subject Area from Prep to Year 6.  Lessons are weekly, for 40 minutes, with a Specialist Italian Teacher.

The Italian Program follows the Australian Curriculum (ACARA)  and has three bands in the Primary Curriculum: Foundation to Year 2, Year 3 to Year 4 and Year 5 to Year 6.  The curriculum is divided into two strands: Communicating and Understanding.

Prep – Year 2 students are introduced to the concept of 'World' and 'Language', where students explore the facts of Italy as a separate country and Italian as a second language.

In Years 3 – 4 students expand on their knowledge of Italy and Italian by creating more complex sentences.  They learn how to use formal language and informal language in context and understand the reasons for this difference.

In Years 5 and 6 students are becoming more confident in expressing themselves through language by drawing on a wide range vocabulary and grammatical structures such as; prepositions, articles, present tense and gender agreement.
