Welcome to the Saint Peter’s Catholic Primary School website. The site is updated weekly with current news items and reflections. The drop down menus at the top of this page contain important detail outlining information on enrolment, curriculum, homework, uniforms and other important aspects of school life. The “Big Picture” articles are commentary on issues currently affecting the education system or future direction of our school.

The Big Picture
Preach the Gospel day in and day out
and if necessary, use words - Francis of Assisi
I’m lucky enough to see my father regularly,
he’s 70 years old and lives with my mother
in Brisbane. Two old pensioners looking
after each other, my mother outgoing and
exuberant- never letting the truth get in the
way of a good story, and my dad more of
an introvert- shuffling from lounge chair
kitchen, TV remote in hand and newspaper
in the other.
Dad has this thing about journalists at the
moment. He hates them with a passion. To
tell the truth it’s been going for some time
now. He writes to editors regularly. He
hates the influence they have on the world. “Journalists determine what the rest of us
must think is important”, he says. “They
don’t report on what we think is important,
they report on what they think is important -
the flavour of the month, and by doing this
they influence the direction of cultures and
the morals of society.” Dad blames the
media for many things, unless they happen
to agree with what he is thinking. Sportsmen behaving badly is one example.
Dad wants to know a journalist who doesn’t
drink or a journalist who lives their life in a
constant state of perfection that would
stand up to any close scrutiny. “Is it only
the status of role model that determines the
severity of an indiscretion?”
America rules the world because they are
telling the stories. Hollywood and
American Media corporations determine
public interest and therefore mold thinking
and determine cultural norms. Journalists
or more accurately, “commentators” or “columnists” get unchallenged control of the
audience. They can say what they like
under the guise of personal opinion or
social commentary often without reflecting
on the impact or influence they have.
In my role of Principal, I find myself sharing
ideas or thoughts on child rearing, family life,
education practices, government influence
etc, however I frequently need to remind
myself of one thing: Words are easier to
say than actions are to do. When you write
the stories, it’s easy to forget that you have
to live them. Actions do speak louder than
words.
Preach the Gospel day in and day out
and if necessary, use words - Francis of Assisi
Keep smiling,
Jim Midgley

excited Year 7 students and 6
equally excited staff departed for

we headed off to the Mint, War

Swine Flu
The swine flu health regulations conclude
at the end of this term. Schools were to
close for seven days from the time of
notification of a verified case and students
who have traveled to Victoria were to be
kept from school for seven days on their
return. These conditions cease on the 26th
June. New arrangements and conditions
will come into place in term 3. I will keep
you informed when we know what they are
to be.
Reedy River Production
Please mark 11th
September in your
calendars for the
schools production of “Reedy River”. The
play, being staged to
celebrate the Queensland 150th
anniversary, will be held in the evening on
the school oval. The play is about the
pioneering days and the shearer’s strike of
1891. The play will
involve all students in Years 5, 6 and 7.
